Darnell Gabriel

Darnell Gabriel is a gifted storyteller, who creatively uses musical plays to share messages of inspiration and to let people know about God’s love

and power.

Born in Chicago, IL, Darnell aspired to be a commercial artist, but suggestion from his childhood pastor would lead him on a different path.

She noticed his ability to create and be imaginative and suggested he study cosmetology. After high school, Darnell attended Debbie's School of Beauty Culture, and began his career in the hair industry.

As a hair stylist, Darnell was not only able to display his imagination with beautiful hair styles, but he also participated in several popular hair shows. The segments that he produced were so unique and professional, many attendees thought he outsourced a creative director. Darnell’s keen eye for detail led him to transition into barbering.

Despite his success in the beauty and barber industry, he is a humble man of God--who loves to teach the Bible and serve as a powerful influence in people’s lives. In 1993 he was called to the ministry and was ordained by the late Pastor Rosemary Mucelli of Holy Trinity Church.

Having taken part in various forms of artistic expressions, Darnell discovered his love for playwriting while serving on the drama ministry at Chicagoland Christian Center.

Dating back to his early works as an actor in 1992, until his success with his co-written hit,1st Lady, Darnell has gained the experience and knowledge to excel in the inspirational playwriting genre. His most recent work, Father Me, is a heart-wrenching faith-based musical that explores the effects of the lack of fathering in the Black community. It stands a part from other plays in the inspirational genre, as it offers a story that does more than entertain and inspire--but reflects the human experience, while offering a profound perspective on the Word.

Darnell, the ultimate family man, is a husband of 33 years and has 5 daughters.
